Shararat
About the show
Once upon a time a woman by the name of Rani Devi gained the blessings of a holy man because of her acts of charity and kindness. The sage granted Rani Devi the boon of magical powers, which would be handed down to each daughter in the generations to come.
However, a little disaster occurred just as the holy man was finishing bestowing the powers on Rani - she sneezed - all over the holy man. The irate sage, though could not withdraw the gift informed her that she and all of her lineage would be incapable of using the powers for the period of twenty four hours if they had a cold.
Shararat revolves around Jeeya the great great great grand daughter to Rani Devi. Bubbly Jeeya is celebrating her 18th birthday and unknowingly, is now the wielder of supernatural powers. Jeeya stays with her family - her father Suraj Malhotra, her mother Radha, her brother Jai and her grandmother Nani.
Apart from this, there are a host of Jeeya’s college friends and acquaintances such as Dhruv, who Jeeya secretly has a crush on; Pam/ Parminder - the latest NRI entry, who threatens to grab all of Dhruv’s attention. Pam is also the neice to Mrs Sabharwal - the classic neighbour - who is convinced that all is not normal with the Malhotra household and spares no opportunity to visit them.
The Malhotra home with three witches who use or should we say misuse their magic, nearly always ending up in trouble; Mr Malhotra who learnt on his wedding night that his wife is a witch and he has to deal with a mother-in-law who not only insists that her daughter and grand daughter practice magic but is forever visiting them.
Jeeya’s new-found skills; the three women every now and then visiting Rani Devi in the nether world; pranks, mishaps, people turning into vegetables, and tons of bumbling jumbling mumbo jumbo make Shararat a truly magical comedy.
