Angel: A vampire with a twist!
He looks familiar doesn’t he? Where have you seen him before? Those aren’t looks you’d forget easily. That strong jaw, those soulful eyes, that incredible physique… where have you seen him?
And her? She looks… the same. As incredibly gorgeous, as devastatingly attractive; those endless legs and perfect smile are definitely registered somewhere…
Aaaahhh. Got it.
He’s Angel. Buffy Summers’ a-long-time-ago love interest in Buffy, The Vampire Slayer. He’s that centuries-old vampire cursed with a conscience, and he’s left the small California town of Sunnydale and the only woman he ever loved to take up residence in Los Angeles, the City of Angels.
She’s Cordelia Chase. She’s the girl everyone loved to hate. Why? Because she was perfect. She had the friends, the clothes, the car… you name it, and she had it. Only there’s a difference now. The spoilt-little-rich-kid has been replaced by a maturing, struggling actress, who will do anything to support her passion, even work for a vampire with a mission.
Together, Angel and Cordy look to save a few lost souls from the pervasive evil and endless temptations that lurk beneath the city’s glittery façade.
Along the way, Angel has collected a motley bunch of friends and foes. An ex-watcher and rogue demon-hunter, Wesley, a street-wise vigilante, Gunn and a student physicist Winifred ‘Fred’, whom Angel saved from Pylea form the core team of Angel Investigations.
Angel (David Boreanaz)
Angel (David Boreanaz) is 274 years old, and has lived a complicated life.
In 1754, a 27-year-old man by the name of Liam fell in love with a woman named Darla who promised him the world. Unbeknownst to Liam, Darla was a vampire, who turned Liam into the most evil vampire the world had ever seen - Angelus. Angelus thrived on brutality and murder, but when he killed the daughter of a gypsy, he was cursed - doomed to life in eternity, with a soul and guilt. He was now known as Angel. The only way the curse could be broken was by experiencing one moment of pure happiness.
Angel met Buffy when he was sent to destroy her; instead, the two fell in love. They kept their romance a secret, and the one night of passion they shared broke the curse and turned Angel back into Angelus. Angelus returned to his evil ways; the only way Buffy could stop him was by killing him, and so he went to Hell. Angelus wasn’t consumed by hell; he was unexpectedly released and given back his soul. He left Buffy and went to Los Angeles to find himself and help others.
Angel set out to “help the hopeless,” ably assisted by former Sunnydale High cheerleader and aspiring actress Cordelia Chase. Plagued by the powerful demonic law firm Wolfram and Hart, Angel helps right wrongs in the City of Angels, ever mindful that it’s prophesised that he probably has a major part to play in an upcoming Apocalypse. A one night stand with the evil vampire Darla had very unexpected effects when Angel becomes the first vampire ever to father a child.
Cordelia Chase (Charisma Carpenter)
Cordelia Chase (Charisma Carpenter) is an aspiring actress who works for Angel.
Cordelia Chase is that girl in high school you always hated - the popular one with the best clothes, friends, and all the boys’ attention. While at Sunnydale High, she ruled the school and made a lot of enemies in the process. By falling for Xander, she got exposed to the world of vampires and demons. She was determined to steal Angel away from Buffy so that she could have him all for herself. The two ended up becoming friends instead. After high school, she fled Sunnydale to go to Los Angeles to realise her dream of becoming an actress. Angel’s rescuing Cordelia at this time brought the two together, where she helped him with Angel Investgations, in Los Angeles.
Cordy’s life was to change dramatically when Doyle sacrificed his life - the half-demon transferred his ‘gift’ of prophetic visions to her. She’s now Angel’s only link to the Powers That Be. The responsibility has forced Cordy to grow up quickly.
Wesley Wyndam-Price (Alexis Denisof)
Wesley was first seen in Buffy The Vampire Slayer. He was sent to Sunnydale to replace Rupert Giles as Watcher. When Faith goes rogue and Buffy quits the council, Wesley is fired from his role as Watcher.
He then arrived in L.A, swapping his suits for leathers and a motorbike, and calling himself a rogue demon hunter. After helping Angel with a few cases he becomes an employee of Angel Investigations, thus helping Angel to fight the ‘villains’ of the big city. He soon becomes a key member of the team.
However, he gets conned into believing that Angel will kill his son and he helps to kidnap him. Angel is enraged and throws him out of the agency.
Charles Gunn (J. August Richards)
When Angel first met Charles Gunn (J. August Richards), he was the leader of a small group of kids fighting vampires in the night. When his sister Illiana was kidnapped and turned into a vampire Angel gave him his support and helped his gang escape. It didn’t take long for Angel to return to Gunn and ask for help protecting his own team. After helping out in a few fights Angel offed Gunn a job and so a new member was made.
Gunn is a tormented soul and a lone ranger, but he will protect his new ‘family’ at any cost. When Fred joined the team Gunn instantly fell in love with her and they got into a relationship.
Winifred ‘Fred’ (Amy Acker)
Fred was studying to be a physicist until she vanished through a portal in the LA Library. She was enslaved in the dimension of Pylea for five years. Angel saved Fred from beheading, and Fred saved Angel from killing his friends while he was temporarily out of control. She calculated the mathematics to reopen the dimensional portal, and went back to LA with Angel and company.
Fred’s become invaluable to the gang - especially Gunn. She’s learnt to fend for herself, and developed one whopper of an appetite for junk food too.
