Characters

Devadasi
Manonmani, the temple dancer returns to her old village with her daughter Krishnaveni and grand daughter, Meenakshi. Only Manonmani knows that the father of Krishnaveni’s illegitimate child is Gopalan, the son of a very orthodox brahmin Rudramoorthy Shastri. Meenakshi is also eager to know about her father. But when Meenakshi comes to know, how the people of the Devadasi caste are treated, she is disheartened and decides to commit suicide. Just then, Manonmani reveals a truth that is sure to break the two households and many beliefs. What is it?

Shastris
Rudramoorthy Shastri, the orthodox brahmin who heads his family with pride. Gopalan, his son is unaware that he is the illegitimate father of Meenakshi, but he is forced to marry and is sent back to the army.

When Rudramoorthy Shastri finds out about his son’s illegitimate child he refuses to believe and throws Manonmani out of the house. Rudramoorthy’s daughter, Gowri falls in love with a christian and gets married. She converts her religion and is thrown out of her own house. Will Rudramoorthy accept his son’s illegitimate child? What happens to Gowri-Gloria? Will she be accepted in the Shastri family again?
