Sankshipt Ramayan

Sankshipt Ramayan

About the show Show Time : Sat-Sun, 10 PM

Sunday -morning television viewing acquired a cult-status with the telecast of Ramayan a couple of years back. It was this mythological serial that re-defined the boundaries and impact of television, with bizarre stories of devout viewers taking the smaller towns and metropolitans by storm.

It is the same magic that comes to you in an abridged and crisper form - episodes that are nearly forty-five minutes long, airing every Sunday. This timeless tale celebrates the victory of good over evil, of good politics and great family values. It’s still enshrined in the moral ethos of our social life.

Rama is the greatest and most principled hero. Sita is the pious soul mate. Ravana is the epitome of evil while Lakshman is the devout brother. Ramayan offers a great range of characters, all in a simple, yet engrossing tale from the beginning to the end.

Rama

Rama is known to be the most famous incarnation of God. He is known as Maryada Purusottama and is the emblem of righteousness. His life and teachings of morality in office are as relevant for us today as when he appeared nearly twenty million years ago.

The emperor Dasaratha had four sons of who Rama was the king’s beloved. He surpassed all the others in matters of virtue. He never spoke untruth, he respected the learned and the elderly. The people adored him and he loved his people.

Sita

King Janaka was plowing the fields when he found a baby girl under the ploughshare and named her Sita. The story of her birth, marriage, exile, abduction, agni-pariksha and banishment is one of the most well-known and loved stories in the country. She’s Rama’s wife, a reincarnation of goddess Laxmi, and is meant to represent the ideal Hindu wife. Born to mother earth, she is a key figure in the Hindu mythology of Ramayana.

Hanuman

Hanuman is the ever-living chiranjeevi son of Lord Vayu and remains a very popular deity among Hindus. A bachelor and a fiercely loyal devotee himself (to Rama), his heroics in the war of Ramayan have inspired several tales of Indian mythology. Hanuman is the only character that appears in both the Hindu epics, the Ramayan and the Mahabharat, which are spread across millennia.

Rawana

He’s the king of Sri Lanka during the period in which the story of Ramayana unfolds. He is characterised by ten heads in the Indian mythologies, and hence a great source of inspiration for the artists.
